Prompt Tips For AI Adventures (That Actually Work)

If your AI adventures feel flat, it''s almost never the model. It''s the prompt. Here''s what changes an AI game session from mediocre to unforgettable.

The five rules

1. Open with a scene, not a setting

Bad: "Fantasy dungeon." Good: "I''m crouched behind a barrel in a dwarven brewery. The alarm just went off. I have a lockpick and 30 seconds."

Specific inputs produce specific outputs.

2. Name a goal

"Explore" is not a goal. "Steal the ledger from the top floor" is a goal. AI game masters improvise best when they''re steering toward something concrete.

3. Play in character

Type your actions as narration, not commands. "I whisper to the guard: does he know I''m here?" beats "talk to guard."

4. Give the model constraints to obey

Add rules in your opening: "This story is short — under 10 scenes. No new characters after scene 5." Models honor stated constraints far better than assumed ones.

5. When it drifts, pull it back

If the AI wanders off, don''t rage-quit. Just say: "Skip ahead. It''s now the next morning. My character has the ledger and is in a safehouse."

Try it
